Reception Lead (GP Practice)
Job Details
Are you an experienced GP Receptionist looking for a role where your expertise truly makes a difference?
We are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on Reception Lead to join our busy GP practice. We don’t need an “office-bound” administrator; we need a visible, proactive leader who is comfortable on the front desk, ready to support our team, and capable of navigating the daily challenges of a modern surgery.
If you have over 10 years of experience in a GP practice and are looking for a role that values your practical knowledge, we want to hear from you.
The Role
You will be the backbone of our reception team. This is a site-based, operational role where you will be physically present to guide staff, handle escalations, and ensure the smooth running of our front-of-house operations. We are seeking an energetic and organised Reception Lead to oversee the front desk operations at a busy general practice.
This pivotal role involves managing the reception team, ensuring smooth patient flow, and delivering exceptional customer service. As the face of the practice, you will coordinate appointments, handle inquiries, and support administrative functions with enthusiasm and professionalism. Your leadership will help create a welcoming environment where patients feel valued and cared for from their first point of contact.
**Duties**
– Hands-on Leadership: Maintain a consistent presence on the reception desk to support the team and handle patient queries in real-time.
– Training & Coaching: Lead the induction of new staff and provide ongoing, in-person coaching, competency assessment and one-to-one support.
– Operational Efficiency: Lead care navigation and triage planning.
– Medicines Coordination: Oversee basic prescription tasks and medicines coordination, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
– Process Improvement: Draft and maintain SOPs to ensure consistent, high-quality service across the reception team.
– Rota & Clinic Management: Manage staff rotas, holiday scheduling, and clinic templates to ensure we are always prepared.
**Qualifications**
– You must have 10+ years of experience working in a GP practice reception environment. You have “seen it all” and know how to handle the pressures of a busy surgery.
– Leadership: You are a natural mentor who enjoys training others and leading by example.
– Resilience: You remain calm under pressure and are not afraid to step in when things get busy.
– Communication: You are an excellent communicator who can provide constructive feedback and resolve conflicts effectively.
– Proactive Mindset: You identify problems before they escalate and implement practical solutions.
