Registered General Nurse (RGN) – Job Description

**Reports to:** Home Manager and Clinical Lead

Purpose of the role

The RGN uses strong clinical knowledge to deliver high-quality, person-centred care, including clinical and dementia care. The role makes sure all care meets the NMC Code and Saffronland Homes’ policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

**Clinical care**

– Deliver continuous assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of residents’ care.
– Help keep care plans audited, up to date and reflective of residents’ needs and the care given.
– Order, store and give medication in line with company policy and NMC guidelines.
– Work with GPs and other professionals to maintain outstanding care.
– Escalate any clinical issues to the Home Manager and Clinical Lead.

**Quality and compliance**

– Make sure regulatory, statutory and company requirements are met.
– Handle complaints in line with company procedures.
– Keep resident information confidential.

**Resident experience**

– Build good communication with residents, relatives and the team.
– Engage residents in conversation and meaningful activity that respects their dignity, choices and communication needs.
– Respond promptly to residents in distress, or get support when needed.
– Help develop the activities programme and support mealtimes.

**Health and safety**

– Inform the Clinical Lead of any incidents when the Home Manager is absent.
– Make sure risk assessments are completed and safe working practices are followed.
– Make sure the equipment and environment are safe.
